Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested an executive engineer of Badamba block in Cuttack district on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a complainant. The accused has been identified as Bauribandhu Parida.
According to the Vigilance sleuths, Parida had demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a contractor for passing his pending bills. However, the contractor approached the Vigilance department and sought action against the accused engineer.
The anti-corruption agency laid a trap on Thursday and caught the accused official red-handed while he was taking the bribe. The entire bribe money has been recovered and seized from the possession of Parida.
Following the trap, the Vigilance sleuths conducted simultaneous raids at Parida’s office chamber, residence, and other locations linked to him on the disproportionate assets (DA) angle. Cash worth Rs 3 lakh has been recovered from Parida’s possession during the house searches so far.
A case (No 4/2023) has been registered against Parida at the Cuttack Vigilance police station under various Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018.
Further investigation is underway, the Vigilance official added.
