Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Monday arrested Golekh Nayak, a junior clerk, Revenue Section in the office of Lephripada Tahasildar in Sundargarh district, while demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant to process his file for passing orders to demarcate his land.
According to a press statement of the Odisha Vigilance the complainant had been requesting Nayak to move his file for above purpose since the last one month. However, the accused was demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 to get his work done. Left with no option, the complainant reported the matter to Odisha Vigilance explaining his harassment.
Based on the complaint, Vigilance officials chalked out the plan and nabbed accused Nayak on Monday while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant and handing the money to one private person named Arun Seth.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of Nayak and Arun Seth.
Following the successful trap, Vigilance officials have launched simultaneous searches at two locations linked of Nayak from the disproportionate asset (DA) angle.
A case has also been registered in this connection at the Rourkela Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation into the case is underway and a detailed report is awaited.
