Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested Ramakanta Mallick, Assistant Engineer (Estimator) in the office of the Executive Engineer, Public Health Division, Rayagada, while demanding and accepting Rs 7,000 bribe from a complainant (family of a contractor) to process a file for signing an agreement between the contractor and the Executive Engineer PH Division, Rayagada, for the execution of two works.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from Mallick and seized.
According to Odisha Vigilance, a trap was laid to arrest the accused. After his arrest, Vigilance sleuths are carrying out simultaneous searches at three locations linked to Mallick from the disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
A case under Section 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered at the Korapur Vigilance Police Station against Mallick in this connection. Further investigation is on and a detailed report is awaited.
