Bhubaneswar: A day after carrying out raids at different locations in connection with a disproportionate assets case, Odisha Vigilance today arrested senior State Government official Ajay Kumar Das today evening.
Das, the Special Secretary in Revenue Department, is a Senior Administrative Grade officer of the Odisha Financial Service. On Wednesday, the sleuths conducted searches at Das’ house in Tankapani Road, flat in Patia, outhouse in Nuagaon and a two-storey building in Balasore.
The anti-corruption agency has also traced two flats in Bhubaneswar and another flat in Puri, belonging to Das. He has been booked in a corruption case by the Bhubaneswar Vigilance Division and arrested today.
During search, the Vigilance officials stumbled upon movable and immovanle assets to the tune of Rs 3 crore. This includes two double-storied buildings, one single-storied building, four numbers of flats, nine (land) plots, two four wheelers, as many two wheelers, bank deposits of around Rs 50 lakh, gold and silver worth Rs 26 lakh and insurance policies amounting to Rs 81.53 lakh.
According to the Vigilance Directorate, Das could not furnish a satisfactory account of his assets following which a case was registered against under multiple Sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He was produced in the court Special Judge (Vigilance) and further investigation is on.
