Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrested Sub-Inspector Rajesh Kumar Srichandan, stationed at Sarankul Police Station in Nayagarh district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000.

According to a release issued by Vigilance Department, the trap was laid yesterday after a complainant approached the Vigilance authorities alleging that SI Srichandan, who was investigating a case involving the complainant’s father, was demanding a bribe to favourably dispose of the case.

The Vigilance team apprehended SI Srichandan red-handed while he was accepting the bribe. The entire amount was recovered from his possession and seized in the presence of witnesses.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches were conducted at SI Srichandan’s residence in Bhubaneswar and his office room at Sarankul Police Station.

Bhubaneswar Vigilance has registered a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is currently underway.

Notably, SI Srichandan, a 2017 batch officer, has been serving in Nayagarh district and was posted at Sarankul Police Station since October 2024.
