Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance personnel arrested Kailash Chandra Behera, Assistant Revenue Inspector (ARI) of Sorana RI Circle under Chilika Tahasil in Khurdha district on Friday for demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a functionary (complainant) of Chilika Adrabhumi Sangrakshyana of Sorana for furnishing a favourable report in respect of some landless villagers, including the sons of the complainant, for getting land under the Vasundhara Yojana of Government of Odisha. The entire bribe money has been recovered from possession of accused Behera and seized.
Vasundhara Yojana is a scheme to provide land to the landless people.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Behera from the disproportionate asset (DA) angle.
A case has been registered in this connection at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation is in progress against accused Kailash Chandra Behera.
It is pertinent to mention here that accused Kailash Chandra Behera was earlier arrested by Odisha Vigilance in Bhubaneswar while demanding and taking bribe of Rs 5000. The case is now sub-judice.
