Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths apprehended Assistant Engineer (AE), Nibedita Mohanty of Jatni Block, Khordha district, on Tuesday.
Mohanty was caught by vigilance officials while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 at her residence in Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar.
She had demanded the bribe amount from a contractor (complainant) for clearing his pending bill towards the construction of some government projects under the Jatni block.
The entire bribe amount of fifty thousand rupees has been recovered from Mohanty’s possession and seized.
Following the successful trap operation, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations belonging to Mohanty from a disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
The Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS has registered the matter under case no. 16/2024 and has booked the officer under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
