Odisha: Villagers Torch Vehicles Belonging To Sand Mafia In Ganjam Village
Hinjili: Peeved over indifference of the administration towards their complaints against rampant illegal sand mining in the area, locals late on Friday night allegedly torched a tractor, a tipper, a motorcycle and an excavator belonging to the sand mining mafia at Kolidaspur under Hinjili police limits.
However, it’s not yet clear who set the vehicles ablaze.
According to reports, illegal sand mining has been rampant from Rushikulya river bed at Kolidaspur, Aalpur and Sikiri area in the last couple of days by the mafia.
Villagers had repeatedly reported about the illegal sand mining to the administration seeking action as they believed that excessive sand mining would damage the river bed.
On being informed Aska SDPO and Hinjili IIC visited the spot and are investigating the matter.
