Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will initiate stern action against anyone found violating the restrictions under excise law during the ensuing New Year celebrations.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said that his department is set to take stern actions against illegal sale of liquor and hooliganism during the New Year-eve celebrations in the state.
Cautioning the bars, pubs, liquor outlets and clubs, Harichandan said anyone found flouting the Excise rules would face strict action.
“In the past, there have been several instances of drunken driving after attending the ‘zero hour’ party. It not only puts endangers their lives but is also a threat to others on the road. We will not tolerate such behaviour. The Excise department officials are prepared to take stern steps in this case of such violations,” the minister said.
Harichandan added that the facilities selling or serving alcohol will need down shutters at the right time at night. Illegal and behind the counter sales during the prohibited hours will call for severe penalties.
