Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has issued orange and yellow warnings for several Odisha districts, alerting residents to potential thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall across various areas over the next few days.
According to the weather forecast for May 2, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak.
Besides, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are also expected in the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
For May 3, the regional weather office has issued orange warning to Mayurbhanj, Ganjam and Gajapati districts. As per the IMD prediction, thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (50-60 kmph), hailstorms, and heavy rainfall are likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
Besides, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are expected in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Rayagada, and Koraput. These districts have been issued yellow warnings.
For May 4, the regional weather department has predicted thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (50-60 kmph), heavy rainfall, and hailstorms at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore. These districts have been issued orange warnings.
Besides, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are expected in the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangapur, and Kalahandi. These districts have been issued yellow warning.
Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions during the predicted weather conditions.
People are advised to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas. Also harvesting of crops may be regulated judicially and farmers are advised to use hail nets to protect vegetables and crops from hail.
