Bhubaneswar: With nine cities in Odisha already recording daytime temperatures of over 37.0°C in the last 24 hours, apprehensions are that soon the mercury may cross 40°C in some places of the state. Already, the daytime temperature recorded in many places of the state is anything between 4.0°C and 5.0°C higher than the normal temperature.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the condition of high temperature has occurred in Odisha due to a lack of rain.
Boudh, Nayagarh and Talcher recorded the highest maximum temperature 38.0°C, while Sonepur at 38.7°C recorded the third highest maximum temperature in the country.
The IMD has forecast that the maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to be above normal by 3.0°C to 4.0°C at a few places in Odisha during the next five days. The weather office has also issued a yellow warning of sense fog very likely to occur at a few places in Odisha, including Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore.
The forecast for Bhubaneswar and the neighbourhood for the next 24 hours is fog/mist in the morning and a clear sky later. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 37.0°C and 21.0°C respectively.
