Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple alerts for districts across Odisha, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next five days.
The warnings come amid an intensification of monsoon activity in the region, triggered by an active monsoon trough and cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.
According to the midday bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar at 2 PM on Friday, a complex weather system is currently influencing the state’s weather pattern.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level is extending from Ferozpur in Punjab to the northeast Bay of Bengal, while an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts, tilting southwestward with height.
Additionally, a north-south trough is running from south Coastal Andhra Pradesh to north Sri Lanka across coastal Tamil Nadu.
The IMD has also forecast the formation of a low-pressure area over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around 13 August, which may further intensify rainfall activity across Odisha.
