Bhubaneswar: Odisha is experiencing a striking weather anomaly as summer-like daytime temperatures grip large parts of the state while sharp night-time drops bring back winter chills, signalling an erratic transition season.
According to weather department observations, 30 places across the state recorded maximum daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C on Tuesday, clearly indicating the early onset of summer conditions in several regions. At the same time, many areas continue to reel under significant cold at night, with mercury plummeting after sunset.
Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest spot during the day while also suffering one of the sharpest nighttime chills. The industrial town recorded a scorching daytime high but plunged to a minimum temperature of 9.5°C at night, highlighting the extreme diurnal variation.
In Mayurbhanj district, Baripada sizzled with a daytime temperature of 31°C, yet the night brought a low of 15.4°C. Some pockets within the Similipal Sanctuary in the district experienced even colder conditions, dipping below 5°C during the night.
Phulbani, known for its cooler climate due to its elevation, remained the coldest location at night with a minimum of 7.8°C. However, it too turned hot during the day, climbing to 31.5°C — a stark swing that underscores the state’s fluctuating weather pattern.
Similarly, Rourkela crossed the 30°C mark in the daytime but saw nighttime temperatures fall below 10°C, adding to the widespread day-night contrast.
