Khordha: There has been a rise in the count of birds during this migratory season, revealed the bird census carried out in the Chilika Lagoon on Wednesday.
Ramaswamy P, Divisional Forest Officer of Chilika Wild Life Division, Balugaon, informed that 57,000 more birds were recorded during the enumeration drive.
A total of 11.31 lakh birds of 184 species were counted. Among them, 10.93 were migratory birds and 38,000 were of local species.
The bird census had been carried out by 21 teams in five ranges – Chilika, Balugaon, Satapada, Tangi, Rambha – under Chilika Wild Life Division.
