Odisha Woman Abandons Son, Daughter; Elopes With Paramour

Cuttack: Locals have rescued two kids, a two and a half year old boy and a seven-year-old girl from the Berhampur Basti, a slum near OMP Square here.

The two kids abandoned by their mother, who has allegedly eloped with her paramour were rescued by locals who later handed them over to the police at the Chauliaganj police station here.

Police have handed over the children to Childline and are investigating the matter.

“The woman after deserting her children at the Berhampur Basti near OMP has fled away with a man. On receiving information from locals our men rushed to the basti and rescued the children. We have handed over the children to Childline,” informed Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh.

“Health condition of the children appears to be not good. We will get them medically examined and provide them with the necessary healthcare. Subsequent to that we will produce them before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The next action is to be decided by CWC,” informed Subash Chandra Swain, Team Member, Childline, Cuttack to the media.

“My mother was crying. She told the man that she cannot live without us, but the man didn’t agree. He dragged her away and said that he will be marrying her,” said the rescued girl speaking to the media.

As per reports, these children hailing from Puri were staying with their mother Kamini Naik who had separated from her husband Sudam Naik.

Kamini had yesterday deserted her children in Berhampur Basti and had allegedly eloped with her paramour.
