Berhampur: In a tragic incident, a 25-year-old woman from Odisha’s Ganjam district and her 8-month-old daughter were killed, while her 4-year-old son sustained critical injuries after they were hit by a speeding train near Palasa on the Odisa-Andhra Pradesh border on Thursday morning.
The deceased have been identified as U. Shravani and U. Shree, while the injured U. Harshat has been admitted to Berhampur MKCG Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. The family hails from Chidupou village under Jarda police limits of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
According to reports, the incident occurred when U. Shravani was crossing the railway tracks with her children at Ichchapuram near Jagganathpuram railway station in Andhra Pradesh. As the woman was holding both her children she could not see the speeding train approaching them. The woman and her daughter were run over by the train, while her son was critically injured in the accident.
On being informed, personnel from the Palasa Government Railway Police (GRP) arrived at the accident spot, seized the two bodies, and sent them for post-mortem.
