Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to promote maternal health and encourage the birth of girl children, the Odisha government launched an integrated scheme, combining the existing Mamata scheme with the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).
Under the integrated scheme, Rs 10,000 will be provided to women for giving birth to a baby boy. However, for the birth of a female child, which was previously given Rs 10,000, women will now be given Rs 12,000 under the integrated scheme.
However, this assistance will be available for a maximum of two children. However, in the case of twins, the limit of two children will not be applied.
To promote the health and well-being of pregnant and lactating women, as well as to encourage the birth of girl children, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched this co-branding initiative on Tuesday.
The scheme also provides incentives for Anganwadi workers, who will receive Rs 250 instead of the previous Rs 200, and Anganwadi helpers, who will get Rs 150 instead of Rs 50.
The Odisha government has allocated Rs 511 crore for the implementation of this integrated scheme, with the central government contributing Rs 115.97 crore. This initiative is expected to benefit approximately 4.5 lakh pregnant women and new mothers in the state.
