Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to enhance sustainable and inclusive urban mobility, the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department of Odisha has begun preparations for the launch of “Odisha Yatri,” a transformative mobility app. This initiative aligns with the state’s broader vision of “VIKSIT Odisha,” aimed at both empowering drivers and improving customer experiences across the state.
An MoU has been signed between Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), Moving Tech (the parent company of Namma Yatri), the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), and the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) to bring this project to life. The ONDC is a Government of India initiative that aims to democratize digital commerce by establishing an open, interoperable network for transactions in goods and services.
The Odisha Yatri app will offer a seamless, convenient, and affordable travel experience while providing drivers with a platform that ensures they keep 100% of their earnings. It will operate on a zero-commission model, guaranteeing direct payment to drivers and eliminating the need for middlemen, thereby increasing transparency and income for drivers. Customers, in turn, will benefit from affordable pricing and fair, transparent rates.
Odisha Yatri will integrate multiple transportation options, including non-AC and AC mini cabs, sedans, XL cabs, and will later expand to inter-city rides, rentals, and scheduled services. The platform will also support special needs such as disability-friendly vehicles, pet-friendly trips, and extra luggage, ensuring inclusivity. Over 4,000 drivers have already registered, with strong backing from driver unions and associations.
At a preparatory meeting chaired by Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, officials outlined the strategic roadmap for the app’s implementation. Odisha Yatri, designed on principles of transparency and community-driven innovation, aims to enhance last-mile connectivity and promote sustainable urban transport. The app will also collaborate with local police and transport departments to implement superior safety measures, ensuring secure travel for all users.
Further, Odisha Yatri will promote tourism by integrating ticketing for iconic sites like the state museum and providing transport solutions for dignitaries visiting Odisha during events like “Prabasi Bharatiya Diwas” scheduled for January.
The meeting was attended by Transport Commissioner Amitav Thakur and senior officials from the Housing and Urban Development, Commerce, and Transport Departments.
Odisha Yatri marks a significant milestone in the state’s journey toward becoming a model for digital innovation, sustainable growth, and inclusive urban mobility under the VIKSIT Odisha vision.
