Bhubaneswar: Rebels in war-torn Sudan have allegedly abducted a youth from Jagatsinghpur district.
The victim has been identified as Adarsha Behera, a resident of Kotakana under Tirtol police limits, had been working in Sudan for three years.
Adarsh worked in Al-Fashir, the capital of North Darfur State, an area ravaged by Sudan’s civil war between the national army and paramilitary groups.
According to reports, the company Behera worked for had suspended operations due to deteriorating security conditions, but he was asked to visit the office premises for routine work a week ago. It was during this visit that he was allegedly abducted by armed rebels linked to one of the factions in the Darfur conflict.
According to the victim’s family members, the kidnappers reportedly shared a video showing Behera in captivity, along with an audio message in Hindi, purportedly recorded under duress. In the clip, Behera is heard saying that the rebels have seized his belongings and will release him only if humanitarian or government intervention is sought.
Behera’s family has urged the Odisha government to take immediate action to secure his release.
