Bhubaneswar: In the wake of incessant as well as heavy rains in the upper catchment area, the water level of Baitarani river is likely to swell further by the night for which the Disaster Management Department has put Keonjhar and Jajpur districts on high alert.
As per an urgent message dispatched by Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) to both the Collectors of Keonjhar and Jajpur districts, the content mentions, “As indicated by CWC, water level of river Baitarani at Akuapada is likely to reach 18.00 metre by 09.00 PM today against danger level 17.83 MTR.”
“You are requested to assess the situation and take all required steps to meet the situation including evacuations of people from low lying areas, if necessary,” stresses the urgent message.
It has also been mentioned, “Ensure that evacuated people are properly sheltered and cooked food, safe drinking water and health facility are made available to them.”
“Situation report may be furnished to the state EOC from time to time,” underlines the urgent message.
