Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has accorded university status to Dharanidhar Autonomous College in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.
“In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) and (2) of Section 32 of the Odisha University Act, 1989 (Odisha Act 5 of 1989), the state government do hereby alter the territorial jurisdiction of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada, Mayurbhanj by establishing a new University,” notification dated February 11, 2023, issued by the state Higher Education Department said.
The notification added that the new university will be named Dharanidhar University with effect from the date of notification in the Odisha gazette.
Sources said that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to visit Koenjhar on Monday to dedicate the new university.
Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian also posted a video, showing the varsity notification to Chief Minister. “Happy news for Keonjhar. The historic Dharanidhar Autonomous College becomes a university. This landmark decision by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will immensely help students of Keonjhar district and nearby areas,” he wrote.
