Bhubaneswar: The 7th Eco-Retreat, organised by the Tourism Department, kicked off near Ramchandi Muhan, Puri-Konark Marine Drive, with the inauguration of the event by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Majhi hailed the Eco-Retreat as the most attractive initiative taken by the state government for tourism, expressing hope that future cabinet and ministerial meetings would be held at such venues in Odisha’s famous tourist destinations.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the Odisha Eco-Retreat has gained national recognition and become a model for other states, showcasing the state’s commitment to eco-tourism and sustainable development. He highlighted the importance of tourism in creating employment opportunities, promoting local culture, and boosting the economy.
Majhi outlined the state’s vision to become one of Asia’s top 5 Eco-Cultural Tourism Hubs by 2036 and attract 50 million domestic and 700,000 foreign tourists annually by 2047. He stressed the need for public-private partnerships to develop Odisha as a preferred tourist destination.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida suggested ways to further develop and internationalise the Eco-Retreat, while officials and stakeholders discussed strategies to promote sustainable tourism and local economic growth.
To make Odisha the most preferred destination for tourists, it is not possible in the usual model. In the coming years, a lot more tourists are likely to come to Odisha. So, we have to prepare now. The PPP mode in tourism is very necessary. Therefore, our government will think more about this issue in the coming days and take necessary steps, the Chief Minister concluded.
