Cuttack: The first Model Prison of Odisha was inaugurated at Radharamanpur in Athagarh on Friday. Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahatab, local MLA and Cooperation Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain and Director Genral of Prisons Santosh Kumar Upadhyay were present on the occasion.
The new facility has an accommodation capacity of 500. The model jail has state-of-the-art facilities and focus has been laid to ensure that the prisoners lead a good life and healthy life, reform and return to the mainstream.
Minister of State for Home, Dibya Shankar Mishra attended the inaugural ceremony over video conference. The Model Convict Prison, a first-of-its-kind in Odisha, has been constructed by Odisha State Police Housing Corporation.
The facility can house up to 450 men and 50 women. There is provision for hospital building, industrial building, administrative building, school building, separate dining halls for male prisoners and female prisoners, kitchen complex, separate toilet blocks for male prisoners and female prisoners, and 12 cells for hard-lined prisoners.
