Odisha’s First Transmodel Aims To Be Ollywood Lead Actress

**Bhubaneswar:** A look at this model and one won’t be to make out that this model was a transgender, who recently changed her gender. She lived on her own terms from very beginning when the whole society was prejudiced against transgender.

She is now preparing herself to Miss World Indore to be held in Feb-March.

Talking exclusively to OMMCOM NEWS, Debolina revealed, “I knew very early that I was a girl trapped in a boy’s body. I used to put on make-up, lipstick, etc when I was just a kid and my family members used to thrash me thinking that it would change my behaviour. But nothing changed.

When I came to Bhubaneswar for my graduation, I dreamt of being a model. I met the transgender community and Meera Maa supported me a lot. I got assignments as a girl, because people were not able to make out that I was a transgender. But there were times when people rebuked me.

She spoke at length on MeToo movement and the casting couch issue. “At one time, I was offered a role in a TV serial but was asked to compromise. Though I badly wanted to do that role, I did not give in. If a person has talent, no one can force him\her to compromise. They will definitely succeed in life. If the girls don’t give in, such incidents will not occur so rampantly.”

Talking about her gender change, “I had saved quite a bit of money. I underwent a gender change operation in June last year at New Delhi. Now I live as a normal woman without any hassles.”

Interestingly, few months later after her surgery, she received a marriage proposal from her colleague.

“He was my colleague. Our wavelengths matched and we were good friends. After a while, we entered into a relationship which subsequently turned into a marriage. He proposed me after knowing about me totally irrespective of social taboos. My parents-in law are very supportive. I am very lucky to get such a life partner and family.”

Debolina has many modelling assignments to look forward to, but she aims for something else.

“At one time, society had not accepted me and I had faced lots of criticism. So I had pledged to make myself so strong that people would look up to me. I want to be a lead actress in an Ollywood movie.”
