Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar welcome a set of new guests from Mizoram’s Aizwal zoo on Friday.
As per the scheme for exchanging animals, Nandankanan was given a pair of Hoolock gibbons (male Kuktea, 4, and female Salbini, 13), a pair of Pig-tailed macaques (male and female, 7), and a Himalayan Black Bear (female Dawii, 11).
A new specie, pig tailed mazaque, has been added to the collection at Nandankanan. At Nandankanan, there are now 163 different species as a result of this exchange.
All the acquired animals will be on quarantine for around one month period following CZA guidelines and prior to their exhibition to visitors, Nandankanan authorities said.
As per Central Zoo Authority’s (CZA) approval, an animal exchange programme was carried out between Nandankanan Zoological Park and Aizwal Zoological Park. One pair of tigers was sent to Aizwal Zoological Park in March this year, under the exchange programme.
