Bhubaneswar: After keeping their shops closed for two days to fix the prices of sweets after a hike in prices of chenna and other ingredients, sweetmeat vendors in Pahala also known as ‘rasagolla bazaar’ on Bhubaneswar-Cuttack highway have increased the prices of all sweets items effective from Tuesday.
According to the sweetmeat vendors at Pahala, the new prices of various sweet items are as follows:
- The price of sweets costing Rs 5 per piece will now cost Rs 6
- Prices of sweets costing Rs 10 per piece now will now be available for Rs 12
- The price of sweets costing Rs 20 per piece will now cost Rs 25
Prices of popular local sweet delicacies like rasagolla and chennapoda have also been hiked from Monday. The ‘Pahala Sweets Vendors Association’ said they were forced to close their shops for two days due to the huge increase in the price of paneer (chenna).
The price of chena gaja has been hiked to Rs 220 per km while 1 kg of chennapoda will now cost Rs 280 instead of Rs 250.
There are about 70 sweets shops in the Pahala sweets bazaar and every day they use four tons of paneer (chenna) to make different sweets and send them to more than 20 cities across Odisha.
