Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s budding chess talent Sattwik Swain has emerged as the champion of the 38th National Under-9 Open Chess Championship at Gurugram in Haryana.
The 9-year-old from Bhubaneswar, a cadet of Pro-Chess-Ta, scored an impressive 10 points out of 11 rounds to top the standings.
Sattwik’s latest triumph adds to his growing list of achievements. In 2024, he clinched a silver medal at the World Under-8 Chess Championship in Italy, earning international recognition at a young age.
The young champion received accolades from top state leaders. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, congratulating him on social media platform X, wrote, “Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to young chess talent Sattwik Swain for bringing pride to the state at the national level. His hard work, sharp intellect, and mental stability at such a young age are truly inspirational. My sincere appreciation also goes to his parents and coaches for their constant support. I wish Sattwik a bright and successful future.”
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo also extended his wishes, stating, “My heartfelt congratulations to chess prodigy Sattwik Swain for winning the National U-9 title. His dedication and resilience are commendable. I pray to Lord Jagannath for his continued success and a promising future.”
