Odisha’s Srabani Nanda

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s star sprinter Srabani Nanda played a crucial role in securing a silver medal for India in the women’s 4x100m relay at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships 2025, held in Gumi, South Korea.

The Indian team clocked an impressive 43.86 seconds to finish second in the high-stakes final.

Srabani, along with teammates SS Sneha, Abinaya Rajarajan, and Nithya Gandhe, delivered a powerful performance that brought pride to the nation and to Odisha in particular.

“I am very happy and proud. In 2017, we won the bronze medal, and this time at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025, we won the silver medal. First, I want to thank everyone who helped us — our sports and youth services, Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), our whole team, coaches, and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Trivandrum. Our training focused on the order in which we run the relay. I ran the first leg, which is very important. We practiced our timing and technique carefully so we could perform our best. Because of this preparation, I was confident running the first part of the race. As a 100m runner and experienced starter, I knew what to do. I gave my best from the start. I also want to show that age does not matter if you stay fit and work hard. Anyone can do well with the right effort. I hope this encourages future athletes to believe in themselves and keep working hard,” said Srabani Nanda.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also extended his heartfelt congratulations to the team, with a special mention for Srabani.

“This achievement is a proud moment for Odisha and a testament to the athletes’ hard work, perseverance, and passion for sports,” he said.
