**Bhubaneswar: ** President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday nominated eminent Odissi dancer Sonal Mansingh and noted Odisha sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra to the coveted Upper House of Parliament. Besides the duo, noted farmer leader Ram Shakal and famous author & columnist Rakesh Sinha have also been nominated to Rajya Sabha.
With these nominations by the First Citizen of India, the four nominated members would replace cricket legend-cum master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, yesteryear Bollywood actress Rekha, industrialist Anu Agha and lawyer K Parasaran as their terms are going to end earlier this year.
In the wake of the nominations of Sonal Mansingh and Raghunath Mohapatra, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Padma Bibhusan Raghunath Mohapatra and famous Odissi danseuse Sonal Mansingh for being nominated to Rajya Sabha.
The Chief Minister also expressed his deep gratitude to President Dr Ram Nath Kovind for nominating the two distinguished personalities who have made immense contribution in promotion of Odia art and culture.
Notably, Article 80(3) of the Constitution of India authorizes the President to nominate a maximum of 12 members to the Rajya Sabha who have special knowledge or practical experience in the fields of Literature, Science, Art and Social Service.
