Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team recovered the body of a youth who was swept away by floodwaters of the Subarnarekha River in Balasore district on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Singh, a resident of Bishnupur village in Balasore district. Singh had gone missing on Tuesday afternoon while bathing in the floodwaters.
It is pertinent to mention that the Subarnarekha River is flowing above the danger mark, causing widespread flooding in the district. The floodwaters have inundated several villages in the Baliapal block, with over 20 villages affected in six panchayats. The water level on the roads is waist-deep, with some areas experiencing water levels up to 4-5 feet.
The flood has caused significant damage to crops and infrastructure, with thousands of people affected. The district administration has deployed teams from the Odisha Fire Services, ODRAF, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to assist in rescue and relief operations.
