**Phulbani:** The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has sought a report within two weeks from the State Home Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) and both IG and Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) of the Southern Range.
On the other hand, protesting the killing of five innocent tribals of the Kandhamal district in the anti-naxal operations by security personnel on Friday night, the opposition on Monday observed a dawn-to-dusk bandh in Kandhamal.
While shops downed their shutters, roads were blocked disrupting normal life in the district.
Schools, colleges, and other institutions remain closed.
No vehicular movement was reportedly allowed in the area.
Both Congress and BJP activists started picketing by burning tyres and stopped vehicular movement.
Places mostly affected were Phulbani, Baliguda, K. Nuagaon and G. Udayagiri.
Administration tightened security measures.
Southern Range IG Amitabh Thakur said that seven companies of CRPF, 27 platoons Special IRB, 16 platoons of police personnel have been deployed in the district to maintain law and order during the bandh in Kandhamal district.
Notably, five villagers, including three women and a one-and-half-year-old girl, were killed during exchange of fire between the Special Operation Group (SOG) jawans and Maoists near Gumudumaha village under Baliguda police limits in Kandhamal district on Friday night.
Basing on intelligence inputs regarding movement of the Maoists in the area, the anti-Maoist security wing had laid an ambush at the spot.
During crossfire from both the sides at Malapanga forest, an auto-rickshaw carrying the villagers got caught in the crossfire resulting in the deaths of the five tribals on the spot while a few others sustained serious bullet injuries.
