Sundargarh/Bhubaneswar: Three vehicles, including an oil tanker, a truck, and a pickup van, caught fire in two separate incidents in Odisha on Sunday.
The first incident occurred near Badamaal Chhak under Sadar police station in Sundargarh. A petrol tanker, en route from Sabdega to Karamdihi, caught fire due to a suspected short circuit.
The vehicle was completely destroyed in the blaze. Firefighters from Sundargarh and Sabdega rushed to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire.
In a separate incident in Rayagada district, a coal-laden 16-wheeler truck collided with a pickup van on the Jhanjavati river bridge near the Majhighariani temple. The collision triggered a short circuit that resulted in both vehicles catching fire and being completely burnt.
The van, reportedly traveling from Atada village to Rayagada for repairs, was hit from behind by the truck carrying coal from Andhra Pradesh. While the drivers escaped unharmed by jumping out of their vehicles, the helper of the van sustained minor injuries.
Fire department personnel responded promptly to douse the flames and police have launched an investigation into the accident.
