Bhubaneswar: A 70-year-old man was tragically burnt alive in a house fire in Bangiriposhi block area of Mayurbhanj district last night. The victim, identified as Bhagirathi Naik, was sleeping inside his thatched house after lighting a fire to ward off the cold.
The fire spread rapidly, engulfing the house and trapping Naik inside. Despite the presence of his family members, including his son and daughter-in-law, who were sleeping in a nearby house, no one could rescue him. The house and all its belongings were reduced to ashes.
Firefighters from Bangiriposhi reached the spot and doused the flames, but Naik had succumbed to the injuries. The police recovered the body and launched an investigation.
The incident has left the village in shock, with locals mourning the loss of the elderly man. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
