Bhubaneswar: The Managing Director of Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd. (OMC), Sudhansu Mohan Samal, on Saturday visited the Gandhamardan and Daitari Iron Ore Mines of the Corporation in Keonjhar district for a strategic review of mining operations, with a strong focus on production efficiency, safety, and sustainable practices.
Accompanied by Director (HR) Alok Kumar Pal, Director (Finance) Bana Bihari Pani, and senior officials, the MD inspected key areas at Gandhamardan Mines, including the Ore Stock Area, Quarry, and Control Command Centre. He urged teams to boost output to meet annual dispatch targets, ensuring a steady ore supply to industries. Samal emphasised strict environmental compliance, elimination of pilferage, and the adoption of sustainable mining methods.
At the Control Command Centre, he acknowledged the existing digital surveillance systems and called for their upgrade to enhance real-time monitoring and safety oversight. He also reviewed employee welfare facilities, reaffirming OMC’s commitment to workforce safety and health.
During his visit to the Daitari mines, Samal conducted an extensive review of the Quarry, Ore Handling Plant (OHP), Baliparbat Ore Stockyard, and Daitari Railway Siding (DRS). He stressed uninterrupted quarry operations in compliance with regulations and advocated for advanced mechanisation at the OHP to improve productivity.
The MD directed systematic stacking, proper grade segregation, and improved digital tracking at the Baliparbat Stockyard. At the Daitari Railway Siding, he emphasized efficient ore evacuation, logistics coordination, and faster rake loading to ensure timely delivery.
Highlighting the need for balanced growth, Samal urged mining teams to integrate production targets with environmental responsibility and innovation. He called for strengthened accountability and alignment with OMC’s vision of sustainable and responsible mining to create long-term value for Odisha.
