Puri: Amidst a rise in cases of Omicron variant of the coronavirus in the State and elsewhere in the country, the Shree Jagannath Temple will remain out of bounds for devotees from January 10 (Monday) to January 31.
The temple will remain closed for devotees effectively from January 9 which happens to be a Sunday when the temple remains closed for sanitization of its premises.
Puri Collector and Deputy Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Samarth Verma has informed that the decision was taken at the Chhatisa Nijog meeting held today in view of rising cases of Omicron which is highly transmissible.
Verma further informed that since several sevayats (servitors) and staff of the temple administration have tested positive for Covid-19, as a precautionary measure it was unanimously decided at the meeting to close the temple for devotees.
