New Delhi: Odisha-based English-cum-Odia news portal OMMCOM NEWS has won the prestigious Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) Awards 2019, for best Digital Production - Content.

Editor-in-Chief of OMMCOM NEWS Jajati Karan received the award at a ceremony organised by the IIMCAA at JNU campus here on Sunday.

A report (link given below) published on OMMCOM NEWS in July 2018 about the plight of a differently-abled man Sanyasi Patra belonging to Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district of Odisha was adjudged as the best under 'Digital Production - Content' category by a distinguished jury designated by IIMCAA.

A day after Sanyasi's story was published on OMMCOM NEWS, the Odisha Government sprung into action (link given below) and deputed a team of officials to address the concerns of this needy man.

Speaking on the feat, Karan said, "Such awards motivates my team and me to strive for excellence in journalism. Since its inception, OMMCOM NEWS has adhered to the ethos of quality over noise." The award carries a cash prize of Rs 21,000 and a memento.

The IIMCAA awards are given away every year to recognise the excellent works of IIMC alumni in different sectors of mass communication. While the awards are given in 35 different categories, this year there were four awardees from Odisha.

Apart from Karan, Jayajit Dash from Business Standard, Prabir Pradhan from News 18 Odia and Itishree Singh Rathaur from My City Links received the prestigious award in Economic and Business Reporting, Crime Reporting and Developmental Reporting categories respectively.
