Bhubaneswar: More than 13,000 aspirants filed nomination papers for various posts on the second day of filing of nomination for the three-tier panchayat elections scheduled in the State from February 16.
State Election Commission (SEC) Secretary R N Sahu has informed that 10,734 candidates filed papers for the post of Ward Members, 1,546 for Sarpanches, 1,034 for Panchayat Samiti members and 42 for Zilla Parishad members.
The filing of nomination will continue till January 21 while these will be scrutinized on January 22.
Candidates can withdraw their nomination by January 25 and the final list of candidates will be issued on the same day.
Elections will be held in five phases on February 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24.
The counting of votes will be held in three phases on February 26, 27, and 28.
