Bhubaneswar: Shree Lingaraj police on Wednesday arrested one person and detained four children in conflict with law for allegedly looting  Rs 1.5 lakh from a person.

The accused has been identified as A. Manoj Dora (19) of Samantarapur under Shree Lingaraj police station limits, police said.

Police have seized mobile phones and a motorcycle in connection with the crime, police added.

Accused Dora has been booked under sections 394 and 34 of the IPC and turned to section 395 IPC.

While the accused has been forwarded to court following his arrest, the four juveniles have been detained.

According to a press release issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bhubaneswar, the complainant Santosh Kumar Biswal works as a Block Data Manager at the CHC at Mendhasala.

On Saturday (7.10.2023) afternoon while Biswal was returning from Bhubaneswar on his own motorcycle an unknown youth requested a lift up to Garage Chowk to which he obliged.

The unknown youth offered a beverage to complainant Biswal to drink at Kalpana Chowk on their way to Garage Chowk. While on the way to Garage Chowk, Biswal started feeling unwell near Ravi Talkies Chowk.

The unknown youth took Biswal to a house having an asbestos roof at Garage Chowk. The unknown youth and four of his accomplices thrashed complainant Biswal black and blue and asked him to give all his belongings.

Biswal handed over his mobile phone and ATM card to them. The accused and his accomplices after forcibly obtaining the UPI PIN (Personal Identification Number) from Biswal transferred Rs 1 lakh from his bank account through Phone Pe App.

Later, the accused and his accomplices took Biswal to a Bank ATM near Samantarapur and withdrew Rs 50,000 from his bank account using the ATM card.

They again took Biswal to the house with the asbestos roof at Garage Chowk and after handing him over his motorcycle and mobile phone fled the place.

On the basis of Biswal’s complaint, Shree Lingaraj police registered an FIR and apprehended the accused and four juveniles in connection with the case.

Police seized the mobile phones and motorcycle and with the assistance of Cyber Cell blocked a bank account having a deposit of Rs 85,137.

During interrogation the accused has confessed to the crime, the release said.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, the release added.
