One Arrested, Huge Cache Of Explosives Seized In Odisha’s Ganjam

Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested one person and seized huge quantities of explosives from his possession in Ganjam district on Monday.

According to a press note issued by the Ganjam police, on the basis of intelligence input, police conducted a raid at Gopalpur village under Rambha police limits in Ganjam district on Monday and arrested one Saroj Kumar Pattanaik (35) alias Kuna for allegedly illegal possession/storage/trade of explosives.

During the search, 196 quintals of ammonium nitrate (99% purity exclusively meant for industrial purpose), 3200 numbers of gelatin stick and 10,406 nos. of detonator were recovered from the storehouse of the accused. As the accused could not produce any valid authority/license in support of the possession of such explosive, those were seized, the press note added.

Pattanaik was arrested on Tuesday and forwarded to the court of JMFC, Khallikote on the same day, the press note said.

An STF case under section 4,5 & 6 of Explosive Substance Act, 1908/ 9(b) Explosive Act read with section 120(B) IPC has been registered, the press note added.

The press note further said that Pattanaik is a habitual dealer of explosives and was earlier forwarded to the court in Rambha PS. Case No.127 dated 22.9.2016 U/s.286 IPC/ U/s. 4, 5 & 6 of Explosive Substance Act,1908.

Further investigation in the matter is on.
