Koraput: One person died and more than 20 persons were injured as a Volvo bus operated by the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC), traveling from Bhawanipatna to Visakhapatnam, met with a serious accident at Sunki Ghati in Koraput district.
According to reports, the bus overturned and rolled down approximately 40 feet from the road, resulting in one fatality and more than 20 passengers injured.
Fire service personnel from Pottangi Fire Station, Semiliguda Fire Station, and Jeypore Fire Station led by the Assistant Fire Officer (AFO) of Jeypore Fire station immediately responded to the scene. The rescue effort was extremely challenging due to the steep terrain and the bus having plunged deep below the road level.
Firefighters successfully carried out search and rescue using specialized equipment, including combi-tools, tower lights, rope lines, stretchers, and other rescue tools.
Till the last report came in, eight persons were rescued directly by the fire service personnel, while another 10 to 12 persons with minor injuries were shifted to nearby medical facilities by police.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be officially determined, and further details regarding the identity of the deceased and the condition of the injured are awaited.
