Kalahandi: One person was killed and at least five others were critically injured when a passenger bus collided with a stationary truck on National Highway 26 near Charbahal village under Kokasara police limits in the early hours of Thursday.
The deceased passenger is yet to be identified.
According to reports, the private bus ‘Raghunath’ was en route from Bhubaneswar to Umerkote in Nabarangpur district when it rammed into a truck parked on the roadside near Charbahal. The impact of the collision severely damaged the front of the bus, trapping several passengers inside.
Local residents and fire personnel from Kokasara rushed to the spot and assisted in rescuing the injured. The victims were admitted to the Junagarh Community Health Centre (CHC), where one of the injured passengers succumbed to his injuries. Five others are reported to be in critical condition.
On being alerted, officials from the Moter police outpost reached the accident site and have launched an investigation into the incident.
