Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident early on Saturday morning, one person lost his life and four others were injured in a car crash on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar due to dense fog.
The accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. near the Lingipur traffic post on the Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway bypass.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Swain, the driver of the ill-fated car. The four injured individuals – Rajesh Maharana, Kanhu Charan Mallick, Chandan Mallick, and Sangram Rout – are all employees of a mixture company based in the Mancheswar area.
According to reports, the five men were returning from a feast at Dhauli when the accident occurred. Due to extremely poor visibility caused by dense fog, the car first crashed into a roadside tree, then collided with an electric pole, causing the pole to bend toward the road. The car was severely damaged, and Sunil Swain tragically lost his life in the impact.
Locals at the scene quickly managed to rescue the trapped passengers and contacted the fire services. Fire brigade personnel promptly arrived at the location and extricated the survivors from the wreckage. All four injured individuals were rushed to Capital Hospital for medical treatment.
The Dhauli police were informed and arrived at the scene, seizing the vehicle and initiating an investigation into the cause of the crash.
