Cuttack: A young engineer drowned and another is feared missing after being swept away in the Kathajodi River near Sector-11 in Cuttack’s CDA area on Sunday afternoon.
Both engineers were part of a project team working on the expansion of SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Rutik Bhanje (24) while the missing person is Rutikesh Matal (25). Both hailed from Maharashtra and were employed with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) India.
According to reports, the two engineers, along with two others from the same team, had gone to bathe in the Kathajodi River. One of them reportedly slipped and was dragged into deeper water by the strong current. The second engineer jumped in to help but was also swept away.
Alarmed by the situation, their colleagues raised an alert and a team from Odisha Fire Services quickly launched a search and rescue operation. After hours of effort, rescuers recovered the body of Rutik Bhanje. The search for Rutikesh Matal is still underway as of the latest update.
Further investigation is ongoing.
