**Berhampur:** Police claim to have solved the mystery behind the murder of Pradeep Kumar Behera alias Gani, who had been bludgeoned to death at Brajanagar in Berhampur town of Ganjam district on night of October 30, with the arrest of one Sashank Mahakud today.
As per an FIR lodged by Gani’s father Hadibandhu Behera at Sadar Police station on October 31, Gani had left home the previous night. As he did not return home, his family members searched for him in vain. In the morning, they found him lying dead in a half constructed house at Brajanagar 3rd lane extension with severe bleeding injuries on his head.
During the course of investigation police found that Gani had some previous enmity with Sashank who is driver-cum-owner of a private ambulance.
On the fateful night, Sashank had called Gani to take liquor. Both of them consumed liquor at the crime spot, a half constructed building, after which Gani started abusing Sashank. Irate over this, Sashank picked some cemented bricks stacked near the spot and hit Gani on his head successively as a result of which Gani fell down with severe head injuries.
Later, Sashank called two minor boys, slapped them and directed them to shift the cemented brick to back side of the building while threatening them not to disclose the matter before anyone.
Based on the information, Sashank was arrested today morning who confessed his guilt and led the police party and witnesses to the place of concealment of the bricks.
Police have seized the two cemented bricks along with apparels of accused Sashank, which are stained with blood.
