One Held For Stealing Idols From Pipili Temple

Puri: An accused in the theft of five old metallic idols from the Sri Gopinathdev Temple at Kakudia under Pipili police limits in Puri district was arrested on Wednesday.

Reportedly, the accused Bapuni Padhi (29) of Chhenapadi under Anandapur police limits of Keonjhar district, had allegedly broken inside the 13th-century temple along with his associates on the intervening night of January 30 and 31 this year.

On January 31 morning, the temple priest Danardan Dixit found the gate locks broken and the idols of Lord Bishnu, Maa Laxmi, Lord Krishna, Sri Radha and Sri Garuda Deva missing.

A probe in this regard was initiated by Pipili Police based on the complaint of Dixit. During investigation, the case could be detected with the assistance of inspector S Beuria of STF, Bhubaneswar.

All the stolen idols were recovered and the accused Bapuni was arrested from Patrapada in Bhubaneswar while other accused persons are yet to be apprehended.
