One Killed, 40 Passengers Injured As Bus Falls Off Bridge In Nayagarh

Nayagarh: One passenger was killed and around 40 others injured after a bus they were travelling by fell off a bridge near Khandisi Chowk at Ranpur in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on late Thursday night.

According to reports, around 40 to 45 passengers left Gunthuni village in Khandapada block of Nayagarh district by a bus last night to watch a cultural programme. However, the driver of the vehicle lost control of the wheel and the bus hit the railing of a bridge near Khandisi Chowk and fell 15 feet.

One passenger was killed and around 40 others injured in the accident. The deceased passenger has been identified as Pathani Jena.

The local residents immediately informed the police and Fire department. Subsequently, the police and Fire personnel rescued the passengers with the help of the locals.

Initially, the injured were admitted to Ranpur Community Healthcare Center (CHC) and Chandpur CHC. Later, some injured passengers where shifted to medical facilities in Bhubaneswar as their condition deteriorated.
