Bhubaneswar: In a tragic road mishap, a person was killed when a truck hit another good truck being parked on the roadside near Belpada Chhak on National Highway 16 under Banpur police limits in Khurda district in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to sources, the accident took place when the truck coming from Bhubaneswar to Berhampur rammed into the goods truck being parked on the roadside. The driver lost control over steering which led to the accident killing its helper on the spot while its driver sustained serious injuries in the mishap.
The front part of the truck was completely damaged in the mishap. The impact was so severe that the truck got trapped in the truck cabin and shouted for help.
Upon being informed by locals, firefighters and Banpur police reached to the spot. The driver was trapped in the cabin in a way that he was unable to move even an inch. The fire brigade team and police had a tough time rescuing the driver from the cabin. With the help of a gas-cutting machine, the fire brigade team had to cut open the cabin and finally rescued the driver.
The driver was rushed to a nearby hospital. As his condition was critical, he was shifted to a Bhubaneswar-based hospital.
Meanwhile, police recovered the body of the truck helper and sent it for post-mortem. Police began an investigation into the matter.
Police said the driver lost control of his vehicle and rammed into the truck parked on the roadside.
