Bhubaneswar: In a bid to make the Capital city beggar-free, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) inaugurated one more Beggar Rehabilitation Center at Andharua for the rehabilitation of beggars.
It is the 5th rehabilitation centre which was inaugurated by BMC Mayor Sulochana Das.
The rehabilitation center can accommodate 100 people. The rehabilitation center is being run with the joint efforts of BMC and partner organisations with the support of the Social Security & Empowerment of Persons With Disabilities Department (SSEPD).
The BMC commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange said that beggars can be included in the mainstream if more organizations get involved in the rehabilitation.
A squad has been formed by BMC to admit the beggars to the rehabilitation center.
Earlier, there were four such centers operating in different parts of Bhubaneswar. With the new one, the total of rehabilitation centers went up to five.
BMC authorities said that these centers will help make beggar-free Bhubaneswar. The rehabilitation center also has provision for the accommodation of differently-abled, women and children.
