Balasore: A fisherman was shot dead and another seriously injured while they were fishing in the deep sea within the Integrated Test Range’s (ITR’s) prohibited area today.
It is suspected that the two fishermen were hit by bullets for trespassing into the ‘no entry zone’ of ITR.
The deceased fisherman has been identified as Kamal Lochan Majhi of Sartha Bindha village. The bullet had hit Kamal Lochan on his chest.
The seriously injured fisherman identified as Padma Lochan Mallick of Kasaphala village has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital here.
According to reports, seven fishermen including Kamal Lochan and Padma Lochan had gone into the deep sea on Tuesday on board a local fishing boat Jai Maa Laxmi for fishing.
The tragic incident occurred while they were fishing in the deep sea. Bullets hit them while they were fishing in between Jodakuti and Gada rivers.
