**Berhampur (Ganjam): ** In a spine-chilling and deplorable act, a spurned lover boy allegedly strangulated his minor girlfriend to death and even poured kerosene and set her body ablaze.
Such a hair-raising incident has taken place in Patrachudi village of Chikiti block under K. Nuagaon Police Station limits on Thursday night.
Being informed after an FIR was filed by the murdered girl’s brother, police rushed to the spot. While investigation is on, police seized the charred body and brought for post mortem to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here in the city.
As per the police reports, the jilted lover has been identified as Kanhu Charan Goud of the same village who is still at large. He is pursuing his +3 studies at local Nuagaon College. He was in one-sided love affair with the minor girl since long. The deceased was a +2 student of the same college. He used to resort to eve-teasing most often following which the girl had complained before her family members against the boy. It had prompted her brother to confront and warn the lover boy. This had incensed the boy and he threatened the girl.
On the fateful night she had been to her uncle’s home and had just returned from there. The accused barged into her home and allegedly strangulated her to death and later poured kerosene and set her body on fire.
According to the murdered girl’s brother Siba Shankar Goud, “Last evening at 6.30 pm, Kanhu barged into our home and tried to outrage her modesty, strangulated her to death and then poured kerosene and has torched her to death. After killing her, he went to my aunt and told her to go and see that he has killed her. The villagers later rushed into and retrieved the dead body. He used to misbehave her in the college. He also used to pass offensive comments on our village road. Our sister had apprised us about his tantrums. We had warned him not to do so being a co-villager. We appeal the police for justice.”
D.P. Pradhan, Sub-Inspector, K. Nuagaon PS, informed, “An FIR has been lodged with us yesterday. A case has been registered under section 302 IPC. I’m conducting inquest here. After post mortem we could ascertain while the investigation is on.”
